5W-30 Mobil One here as well, with a Motorcraft filter.

Change it between 3500, and 4000 miles...

Previous owner used it from day one, and I have had no probs.

I am in Arizona (109* already!)

I thought about using Royal Purple, but I am too lazy to order it all the time. (Auto Zone is easier).

Also, when you change the filter, fill the new one with oil, and install it, this way it doesn't have to fill with oil before it oils the top end.
The filter position is perfect for this... (Vertical)...

Hey Drkone,

I am here in Tempe and I use Royal Purple. Napa carries it. Awesome oil. I use 10w-40 in the summer and 10w-30 in the winter.........

How many miles should I wait to switch over to pure synthetic? I've heard people say around 3000 but I am just curious.

so the majority seems to use 5w30 instead of 10 like I've always used... so the L needs a thinner oil? thanks

I used 5-30 in the stock engine and on the first built engine. Then I went to just regular old oil. However because people thought I was being too cheap I just bought a whole bunch of 10-30 Mobil one a couple of weeks ago and will be using Mobil 1 again.

I am using 0W-20 Mobil1

Jim@JDM wants me to use the new Mobil1 in my built motor. If it is good enough for my 630HP motor, I am sure it would work fine for you too.
