225 miles and First Problem
225 miles and First Problem
I can't believe it!! I have been reading this board for some time now and after some brief consideration I decided to make the purchase. I bought the truck brand new on 5-23-03, it only had 3 mi. on the clock. Well, I drove it all weekend, never letting the tach go above 3500 and trying to stay off of the highway to allow a proper break-in. Then it happened, Monday night my wife and I were going to get something to eat so we decided to take the L, So I pulled it out of the garage and then remembered that I had forgot my phione so I got out turned to the garage and there I saw it, A puddle of what looked like transmission fluid, I could not believe it........Well it turns out that it was transmission fluid but it was coming from the power stearing pump. I sure do hope that this is not a sign of things to come.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks

Sorry for your L problem. I don't think you have much to be concerned about as I don't remember many(any?) power steering problems mentioned on this forum--other than it being 'noisey', which is normal for Fords. Maybe the reservoir was overfilled? In any case, your dealer will fix it .
Have fun and enjoy your new L

Thank you for the feedback....I hope it was just a decompression, I am going to keep my eye on the fluid level before I take it in. I am having way too much fun with the truck to have it sit at a ford for a day.
SVT only; I had the same problem. Mine was leaking from the hose that conects to the top of the pump. ( I beileve this is the resevoir hose.) Ford uses one of those spring metal clamps for this conection and it was not doing the job. I carefully cut it off with a dremel, then replaced it with a regular hose clamp. No more leaks since then.
Actually, mine did a similar thing and after getting under the truck, I noticed that it was coming from my power steering gearbox. It was replaced under warranty but now my steering wheel is a little crooked, hehe. Anyway, no problems since then.
