stock air box and ram air? can it be done?

I tryed the search button but for some reason it want's more than three letter's. RAM AIR
My thought's on this is to close off the hole going to the fender and supply the factory box with a 4 inch hose comming from under the bumper some where like an after market ram air set up.
My truck is stock with a k$n filter. Has any one done this yet or will it work even?
I did the search because i remember some one using a plastic trash can for one.
Thanks Don

Its already been done. I think Rob has done it. You dont want genuine ram air. It will lean you out for one. You could cut a hole in the bottom of the right side part of the airbox and feed a hose up there. Dont touch the fender area. You dont want it closed off and relying on a hose for fresh air.

Both PSP and JL offer a kit for just that, but like **** wrote you do not want true ram air.

If you do run hoses into the airbox watch were your run them.

I did it a while ago on mine, and had the hoses enter directly under the MAF hole. Right above the hoses entrance there was a little ledge which change the direction of the air and caused it to pull away from the engine. This caused a lean conditions and heavy acceleration problems. So I switch over to a conical filter and put the hoses under it and everything is good now.

It can be done, but make sure alot of air can get in. With these trucks when you first mash the pedal they want to pull in alot of air, and you have to make sure it can. Also placement of the hoses is important so you can still maintain an airflow.

For searching try:
ram* air*

Theres alot of stuff and I believe I covered my problem in more detail then this almost a year ago.

I tried several different words to find that thread. "Cutting" was the final 'word'(see it at the end of the addy?) that identified it for me.

As capt. said, add an asterisk(*) to any three-letter word for the search function to work but be aware; it really sloooows down.
