Question ? for those that did the acetone mod

I was just curious how the paint has held up around the emblem? If any acetone got on the paint when you did it has it had any ill affects? I am thinking of doing this mod but I don't want to do anything to hurt the paint. Thanks for any info. Sam

I used nailpolish remover and it worked well. every time i got it on the paint i sprayed it with the hose and wiped it down. No ill effects on the the paint. I only did the back one but it came out good.

Yeah, i taped it off and ran newspaper the rest of the way down the truck to catch drips. You will still get a little on the paint around the emblem but it comes off with acetone, especially on a white L the black shows up good. Good luck, you wont be disappointed, great $4 mod.

There is something better. Go to NAPA and ask for "prep solvent"
I don't have the number on me. But it's used to wipe a car down right before painting. It's about $22 per gallon but removes everything off of paint except the paint it's self. Tar, sap, wax, ect... That stuff is awsome!

If I think of it tonight, I'll post a pic.

It will take off the wax, but it won't hurt your clearcoat. Just wash it down and rewax when you are done. Prep Solvent is great for bugs and tar, but I think Acetone works best on the emblems.

I will say from experience that straight Acetone (from the paint department of Home Depot or such) will work so much easier than nail polish remover.

My girlfriend and I tried using nail polish remover because we had it around the house, but it took forever and we ran out of sunlight to finish. I went and got some real Acetone to finish the job - what a difference. We would have been done in a matter of minutes had we used it from the beginning.

Just be carefull and take your time...

Here is what I use. Maybe it's not as strong as acetone but I've used it for years and it does just fine.

I used rubber cement and had great results!

Elmer's Glue works just as well...

Prep sol isnt going to remove the black from emblems, its basically just watered down kerosene. Great for tar and grease removal.Acetone shouldnt bother factory paint as long as you remove any drip right away. If your trucks been painted Id be very very careful with acetone or laquer thinner.
