#6 Pulley & 2.80, Safe Without Chip?

Is it safe do drive my truck with a #6 pulley and an upper 2.80 without a chip? My chip is being burned and my truck has been down for a mounth. I need to drive it. What would be the problem? As long as its not detonation! I'm sick of that!

You can drive it..

Just dont get into boost...

I cant count how many times Ive driven much truck without a chip... If you just cruise around without boost, the bypass valve is open... no harm no foul

Thanks! It won't leave the driveway. My motor has been apart twice in 2000 miles and I would like to see how it drives before I burn anything else. I have a safe program coming. Lets see if I can stay away from burning and bending valves. I will mind!!

Your not crazy at all........you can drive it with no problems at all........hell without a chip you are probably running richer and have less timing.

Just stay out of the boost and you'll be fine.

What Dale said........... Your eng won't 'know' you have the bigger pulley/more boost if you don't 'use' it--stay out of the boost and you'll be alright.

First let me say I'm not recommending this. A local guy here (svt02) ran an 8# lower and 2# upper for quite some time, even ran at the track, with a stock bottom end and no chip. When he finally drove all the way to get a dyno tune from his tuner, they blew it up on the dyno!! No, I won't tell who. It even gets worse from there if you can believe it!

I 2nd that. I have a 4# lower and I dont just park my truck when I'm getting reburns. I just have to stay out of the boost. I know it's hard, but with a 6# lower and a 2# upper I'd pry stay outa the boost even WITH a chip. you've got more cahunna's than I do. I've got a 4# lower and i was debating an upper.
But as far as when your chips in for a reburn, drive it normal, and try to stay out of the WOT's. Let me know how ya like it when you get your chip back and you make a few passes on it. Your set up makes me jealous. I want to do something with just thie 4#er over here. thanks, Shane

Nope! Thats why I burned a valve at 2000 miles. A Vette made me mad, so during the race I burned a valve. He thought he wasent doing to bad at 120mph, but I only had 6 cylinders by that time. So I'm letting it set untill I get my chip. My Ford machanic loves these trucks , it keeps him in peso's.
