I think what you have would be considered a cat-back....
A different muffler may make your truck louder.

Depends which one...

Usually they are louder. Haven't heard the Borla or Spintech but the JDM Silver Bullet and the Bassani are both louder. I would suspect the new Magnaflow catback is also louder...

Maybe I read your post wrong. But I think you are miss understanding what a cat back is. That just means you get a muffler, and tail pipes, as oposed to replacing just the muffler. Magnaflow makes many mufflers. They have one factory replacement (sounds like the one you have) that is only slightly louder than stock. You can go all the way up to the ones used in the JDM silver bullet system which are basically high quality cherry bombs. I have the Silver Bullet. When I first installed it, I (and my girlfriend) thought I just wasted big bucks, and turned my new truck into a rat (because of noise level, not sound quality). After driving it for a week, I fell in love. It sounds AWSOME, and I actually wish it was a tad louder now! My advice is...go a little louder than you think you want. You will get used to it, and remember, you've got one of the greatest muscle motors available today, let it GROWL a bit!!

replacing the muffler and keeping the stockpipes will give you a little rumble. replacing both muffler AND pipes will give you a little bit louder, and a much deeper tone.
I would suggest a cat back as the stock tips look so terrible... they are way too small.

That's a c/b--just as someone else said; you are replacing the exhaust, from the cat(s_..back.............
