Hey Marc C
Hey Marc C
Hey Gator, stop by Bob Gilbertsons pit area and tell him I said Hello. I used to wrench for him in an earlier lifetime.
He is rolling out his tribute to "Jungle Jim" car there this weekend.
"Jungle Pam" is going to be staging him after his burn-out.
Should be a nice show. Knowing him as he will probably do a 1/4 mile burnout.
Have fun.

Bob had a little "incendent", when his chute didn't open and he ran thru the traps carring alot of speed, but the sand traps caught him with just a little body damage. Didn't get a picture of his burnouts, was going thru the Pro Stock Bike pits when he made his run sunday. Sorry could get close to him, to say hello for you.
thanks Gator...
I caught his 2nd run on the TV and saw him play in the sand.
I have known Bob since he started in 75. I was with him for the
first 5 years of his career when he ran what was then BB/FC in division 6 out in Oregon/Washington. ( he was 20 years old !!)
He is one genuine individual. Married to his high school sweet heart, would give you the shift off his back, and has the strength of about 5 men.
He has weathered the storm and has run on his "own" money until the last 3 years when he was finally able to land some sponsor $$$$$.
Putting this all into prospective, he has been able to compete with the big boys, and is out there where I know a 1000 people would give their right arm to be. Nitro Drag racing....
Mark my word that very very soon he is going to be sitting among the top 4 or 5 in his Division.
Too bad you couldn't get to talk to him, you would have seen what I mean.
Thanks again Gator.....

Thats great...........
Its not to many people who can make a living doing what they truely love. My hats off to anyone doing anything that they love.
I would have loved to talk to him, but you know how the pits can be sometimes.............and I wanted to get to my seat for the 1st round of top fuel. My ride was in a hurry to leave, even before the finals, so I had no time to go back to his pit.
O well, there's allways next year
