Gutting the Cats....

Alright everyone, I've searched and there doesn't seem to be an answer I'm happy with....

If I gut my cats, am I going to lose torque?? Will it be noticeable?? Or can I just count on some great sound and maybe even a little seat of the pants increase in performance....

Has anyone done it, I know I need 02 sims, but what do you all think??

Thanks,
Ed.

You will loose some low end power, the truck will not sound good (IMO), and you will most likely not feel any seat of the pants. Of course there's the federal law thing too .

Hey sal,
I've actually emailed you a couple times in the past 2 weeks, I know you have been busy and had some incidents with your truck (sorry to hear it man), but I'm interested in buying either a 4 #'er and a chip or a flip and a 4....I want to stay "safe" so I thought the 4-way would allow for a safer street program and then a race program, what are your thoughts?? Right now all I have is a Bassani, my goal is 12's and I ran 13.4 last Sunday....

Thanks,
Ed.

The 4lb pulley is great for a safe street driven truck. The amount of programs you get on a chip has nothing to do with it's safeness, it just gives you more selections. If all you want is a safe pump gas street program, then all you'd need is a single program chip. If you want other programs, then you can opt for the 2 or 4 program.

Was actually interested in having a street program, a race program, I will most likely only run pump gas, but I would like softer shifts on the street and so forth....Maybe the other 2 could be an anti-theft or I should just go with a 2-way....not totally sure.

i doubt that you would even notice any power loss. if there was a loss it would be on the lower end enough to where you couldnt even use it anyways. besides its made up for on the higher end.

also...sals right...there is that pesky federal law thing

No cats= Way, Way too loud exhaust. I have high-flows with JDM's Silver bullet and it's right on the edge of being too loud. I would not gut the cats!

I have gutted high flow cats. I have no rear O2 sensors and I passed emissions 3 weeks ago. I'm happy with no cats. My truck is pretty loud. I noticed no power loss, but I'm running 20+psi on the street.

BTW, if you did a search you would have found that information.

I've asked this same question and asked a few different people. I think i narrowed it down to this. If you wantit really loud with no power increase...gut the cats. If you want power increase, loudness and sound...get high flows. I myself decided to go with hi flows. price isn't bad, and heard about 10-20 hp increase from them.

I live very near an emissions testing station and decided to spend the $10 to see if the truck would pass. My state recently went to an OBDII test. They no longer use the sniffer which is stuck in the tail pipe. They checked under the car for cats, checked the gas cap, and then connected the OBDII tester to the truck. They then gave me my certificate.
I have a chip, no egr, long tubes, gutted high flow cats, no rear O2 sensors.

I was surprised I passed, but I did and that is all that matters. If I didn't pass there may have been other means at my disposal...
