Color Change Blue Emblems

Got some new colors done.

One turns dark blue to black and the other is a light blue sparkle.

The first logo looks like it's black until direct sunlight hits it, then it appears as the photo shows.

The nice thing about these is the blue ones appear to be a solid black logo about 80% of the time. They only look like that in the photo because of the flash. Outside and once mounted on the truck the only time the logo will appear brillant blue is when a person in a lower vehicle than yours looks at it in direct sunlight.

This is really expensive to do... so I will tell you how it'd done.
(To do a set cost $75 just in materials + several hrs of my time!)

1) heat logo up with hair dryer (about 5 minutes)
2) use small screw driver and work it under gel-coat slowly.
if you have the hard plastic emblem I can't help you
3) Once edge of emblem is lifted, reheat gel-coat and pull off slowly
4) clean emblem with acetone
5) spray logo with backing color, flat paint works best
6) spray color-change hobby paint ontop of base-coat
depending on the color of base-coat and quantity of color-change the
effect will vary greatly
6b) use q-tips and acetone to remove paint from ford logo and outside oval
7) The emblem should still appear flat, now get some marine laminate
(Home Depot sells a 2 parts marine laminate made by Bondo, $25)
8) Pour intial layer of Bondo on emblem
(color-change will appear once laminate hits emblem)
9) layer laminate until you get desired thickness
(it took me about 4 coats to make the outside edge smooth)
If you let the laminate complete cure, you must sand inbetween coats for
proper adhesion, I also used a nail to pop the bubbles that get trapped in
the laminate
10) The final product will have no UV protectant, so you must sand the
emblem smooth (220grit) and spray some Spar Eurthane to
prevent yellowing of the laminate.

E-mail me with any questions
