It's a piece of cake. A dirty chicken could do it.

As long as you don't mind getting covered with stinky atf

Do yourself a favor and buy the 4 X 4 deep pan and filter for around $50. Then you can just punch a hole in the factory trans pan to drain the atf. Then with the new pan, you'll have a drain plug so you can change the fluid. You will need a few tools, torque wrenches (inch pounds)

yep piece of cake, just unbolt pan, take off filter, take out old VB, bolt in new one, torque bolts, put new filter in,clean pan magnet, clean gasket mating surfaces, bolt up pan, torque bolts, refill tranny, start motor, cycle gears, check fluid. also make sure the tranny is cool before you do this....completely cool

Like everyone one else has said, it is VERY easy. I had a friend there to help me lower the pan so that there would be less of a mess but I could have easily done it myself.

I'm not a rocket scientist. When things heat up they expand. If the tranny is hot it will throw off the torque. The last thing you wanna do is strip a bolt for the valve body or pan bolt.

If you have access to a lift, i highly recommend it.

Its one hell of a messy job, but worth it. Plus it will force you to change that fluid/filter out.

The torque doesn't really matter if it's hot or cold, we work on them hot at the factroy all the time, the real reason you want to let it cool down is the thing is just to hot to work on when it's hot, and that fluid will remind you of a deep fryer.

I installed one in my 99 in my driveway and even though I put a hole in the pan as per Greg I still got that red ***** all over me and my driveway. When you remove the bolts from the V/B fluid runs out of them. On my 03 I went to the local oil change place and found out what kind of beer they liked. They told me to come over 15 minutes before they close the next day (and I would be allowed to go into the pit). I bought a twelve pack and was there the next day as I was told. As soon as they closed up I was in the pit and after the guy removed the pan I installed the V/B myself. Then he installed the new pan and filter and filled it back up with fluid. All they would let me pay for was the fluid, no labor. They were happy to have the beer. Sometimes beer will grease the skids better than oil!

Yeller916,

It takes about an hour to install, is easy as pie, and comes with excellent instructions. Click the link below.
