How much of a pain is it to change top pulley?
How much of a pain is it to change top pulley?
I already have a 5 llb lower and would like to be able to change the top pulley for racing only. I seem to remember that thge top pulley change is not something you want to do back and forth on a regular basis. What does it take in time and effort?
Me and a friend recently installed a JLP upper on mine. JLP sells a pulley removal tool.
It took about 20 minutes.
WITHOUT the tool, I wouldn't even try it. That factory pulley is packed on there pretty tight.
But WITH the removal tool you'll have no problems switching to whatever size you want, at ANY time within a half hour.
Hope this helps.

Hey Guy,
This change will be between, " Not bad - to distroyed that damn pulley." Just be ready to pull the blower snout and use a press to get the pulley off. The snout comes off very quickly and you might go this way before bending the factory pulley.
If you are ok with this, then it won't be bad. Just expect the worst.

Like alot of the tuners, with building motors, producing parts, working on customers trucks and ofcourse racing.......they don't have the time to update their websites.

The pulley removal tool has been updated and includes a handle so you can keep the snout/pulley from spinning.
For installation of the new pulley, add a THIN amount of grease to the end of the snout. The heat generated while pushing on the new pulley will cause the new pulley to expand and make the install frustrating. Having a cool engine helps also.
Additionally, rent/loan a power steering pulley puller/installer from Autozone. Doesn't cost anything provided you return it and makes installation of the pulley easier. If you opt ot buy it, cost is circa $40.
write up of the install that 'Taxx mentioned.
