Thats what I would like to hear too.

Congrats on getting a built short block Nathan, I think you where smart to hold the revs low until you get some miles on the motor also
Throw an 8 lber on the bottom and I'll bet you'll be one happy camper

Well, it wasnt 400 hp, but it was close. Your truck has serious nuts nathan. Dont worry about it, just add some boost!

What are the cam specs, and what kind of valve springs are you using? Just curious, thanks.

My A/F was 10:1...... Pig rich!!! That's fine for my street side since it helps to improve the economy by supporting the gas companies.

At the time I had no intension of dynoing the truck last Saturday but it was pointed out that I needed a base line prior to install of my built engine.

Hey John, answer your phone.

Tried work - got machine
Tried home - got machine
Tried cell - disconnected

Nathan,

Congrats on getting a built motor in, I just finished installing mine Saturday. I don't relish doing that job again, so I hope I put everything together right. I also think exhaust flow may be limiting your truck now. My stock engine dynoed much higher, but with 6 & 2 lb. pulleys and LT headers/high flow cats. I've got ported heads & cams in the new one, but will also put some more miles on it before heading to the dyno.

Good luck with the new motor.

Lightning Bob

so why the built motor if you are making all that "mad powa" and being pig rich?? Are you thinking it will not make anymore power safely by being leaned out a little? My truck is rich as well, not like im pushing the limit either

This curve is really messed up looking. Why does the power not really come up until after 3800 rpm? By the time the torque actually peaks, it's already decreasing. You really only have data between 4000 and 4700...

Exactly what I was going to point out.. If your only making 191 ft/lbs at 3000RPM then...there's a problem..

You never saw your true torque peak on that pull, look at it. From 3900-4000RPM you jumped almost 100 ft/lbs and 60HP?!?!

If that second dyno pull was "true" you have a slouch on your hands, since you've lost all your power below 4 grand.. But we know it's not true... Maybe it's the nature of the dyno, but if that's the case, why baseline if your going to change everything?!

That's like comparing something measured by a blind guy with a sundial, vs a machinist with an optical comparator!!

to answer some of the outstanding questions ...

The cams are the crower 68202 (stage 2) with ovate springs. The heads I purchased are supposed to be ported with 1mm over SS valves.

The exhaust consists of bassani shorty headers and a mac catback.

There were more pulls that started lower but I posted the one that showed the highest numbers. It's a short graph, I agree but all the others made less HP and less TQ so I didnt bother scanning them.

I'm also sure that more boost would help. However, I already have heat soak problems and I'm not really interested in a truck that runs an 11.x once. The road courses are run hot and you dont get a chance to ice things down between laps. Same reason a powercooler isnt worthwhile because it only delays heat soak, not prevents it. (and I'm going off topic, sorry) .. back to the issue

I havent spoken with Paul much yet because I'm in trial and dont get out until after the shop is closed. He did say to try running more boost

It sounds like a stout motor, but something isn't right somewhere. 11.1's have been run with the Crower cams and JDM engine/heads, which dynoed like 550/680 (if I remember right). Maybe it's a simple problem that you've overlooked. Make sure to double check everything.

THe reason he starts making power at 3800rpms is because that is when the truck started the dyno. Paul starts the dyno at 65mph and stops it at either 95 or 100mph.
