well, while at a STOPLIGHT, (your supposed to stop on red, right?), behind about 8 other cars, dead stop I see the mother of all dumptrucks coming at me, i pulled up as closed to the car in front of me trying to avoid him but he nudged me, the good news is most of his front bumper is actually taller than my truck, the bad news is the truck was so big and heavy even a little nudge was enough to turn my tailgate inside out, and just barely nick the rear quarter panel, fiberglass ouchy. no tail light damage, or even rear bumper damage. the guy was somewhat cool about it, what else could he be? he had about 300 yrds to stop and he still hit me. said he would cut me a check when I got the estimate, I drove straight to the shop, $1893.76. hopefully he will still be cool about when I tell him the repair bill, its not that bad though, I thought it would be more, and seeing that he owns his own excavation co. I dont think 2K is any sweat for him. I handled the situation pretty well, I only called him a dumbass once, and kept my hands to myself. atleast no-one was hurt, especially since me nor my passenger had on seat belts

 

That sucks.

Hopefully you got insurance info. A lot of people are say they will take care of it until they see the bill. I would have called he police. Good to have a report if it ever goes to court. Stories seem to change a lot from "I'll cover it" to "He backed in to me" if you have to take his *** to court.

 

oh yeah, and the weird thing is that a couple days before my best friend got hit in his new mustang, and the week before that my other friend got rear ended! I was actually joking about being next 5 min prior to being raped by the dumptruck.

 

I have a written statement with his name taking full responsibility, my witness in the truck, and the names of a couple other witness's. It will be cheaper for him to just pay me, and better for me cause I get to take it to my own shop and and dont have to put up with a insurance companies B.S. hopefully he will just pay up, I think the estimate was conservative.

Live and learn. Glad that everybody is alright. For future reference in most states any property damage over $500 or any personal injury requires that you call the police. For the reasons stated above.

Well i'd say you handled it alot better than i would have. I've been rearended twice now. . .both times totaling the car. . .while at a dead stop. The first was a teenage girl on her cell phone and i used a few choice words with her once i realized she was alive. The second car was totaled by a friend running into the back of me and because he was my friend i didnt drag him out of the car. . .i got to his door and stopped myself. I dont believe i can hold myself back if someone rearends me in the L. I will be so pissed if it happens. It wont matter how big they are . . .i got something for them . . .but its no firearm. Glad ur ok though and at least the L didnt get totaled.

yeah the seatbelts was stupid, I kinda wish he would have taken out the rear bumper, It would have been cheaper to replace with a fiberglass roll pan, darn roush kit lowered it just enough for his bumper to miss mine. I'll try and post pics and let you guys know how it goes when I fax him the bill.
