Optimas are repackaged and sold a bazillion ways too since they got bought. If you pick up the deep-cycle interstate drycell, it is the same battery as the yellow top optima.

Let me start out by saying that I have owned 3 Optimas--the first one was back in the 80s. They were all 'red tops' but still.........and I loved them. As to 'weight', I would think the Optama is lighter?

Having said that, Consumer's Reports(the commie bastards ) did an auto battery test a few(?) months ago. I can't copy, quote, or scan it but as I remember, a Ford Motorcraft battery(model no., ?) scored higher than the two Optimas they tested...................

I would go for the yellow top since is a deep cycle battery so if you kill it, you wont hurt it.

do the yellow tops have enough CCA's to start a truck??

i've seen them used for additional batteries for stereo systems..

the local autozone has the Red Tops on sale for $109, and Yellow Tops on sale for $119.

The yellow top should have more than enough CCA's. I'm not sure what its rated at but its probably rated at a lower temp than the stock battery too. I believe the stock battery has 540 CCA when the optima has 870

If your not going to use your truck for an outdoor concert then you don't really need yellow tops for your truck, its kinda pointless to spend the extra money.

The big difference between the two is that your can drain your yellow tops completely and then put a charger on them and gain all your power back. With the red tops you can get away with it a couple times, but you can't make a habit of it or else there junk. I've drained mine like twice on accident and there still pumping out 14.4 volts

I do plan on switching my red tops for one of these though!

I do like my red tops though, HEHEHEHE

I need all the power I can get!!!

If you go to the track, and run a electric fan the yellow top is the only choice. It has plenty of power to start our trucks, I have run the yellow top for two years. I have drained it more times than I like to admitt and it is still working awesome.
