What’s causing the bolts to round off on the lower pulleys?
What’s causing the bolts to round off on the lower pulleys?
I don’t have an after market pulley on my truck so I’m unfamiliar with the set up. When you change the lower pulley does a new “soft” bolt come with it causing it to round off? Or does the original bolt freeze up when installed with an after market pulley?
Also the ones that are rounding off, are they coming from a specific vender? Just trying to think ahead here guys, I’d like to not have the same headache if I can avoid it.

My stock pulley came right off, that huge allen head works nicely, maybe JDM should make theirs like that.......anyone had problems getting a stock pulley off?

I have also seen aftermarket installers struggle with the occasional stock one as well

the SVT mechanic that took my stocker off said it was a pain to get off, but added that some come off easily and some don't

In fairness the stock pulley is often a bitch to get off.
The cageless pulleys dont have the same method of attaching to the crank so they dont have the same issues as the caged pulleys

block and supports a bearing. In the non-caged types, all
the pulley does is bolt to the harmonic balancer.
My 02 came off nice and easy. The (Ford) mechanic who took off the stock one on my 00 when changing my motor over got a couple of free paid days out of work along with like 12 stitches and a concusion when the breaker bar he was using broke and smashed his forehead into peices
I used a cageless pully on that one and I just did again.Im not into racing so I have no need for an interchangeable one and i cetainly dont need a caged one to begin with.Im pretty confident that I wont be living anymore when a failure comes from running a uncaged compare to a caged.
And if you wanted to change your pully,Changing an uncaged is the same as changing a swappable caged once you get the stocker off..02 except there is only 3 bolts instead of 6 on the uncaged
Im sure the cage serves it purpose but with all the headaches, problems and price,i dont see why anyone would go that route.

The lower pulley system from JDM is the one that has the problem. The bolt is a low grade mild steel. It should be a grade 8 bolt. I'd recommend buying the pulley system from Razors Edge Motorspots. You can interchange the pulleys as well from 2-6. The main pulley body bolts on using 3 small allen bolts.
Yea, when you change these they become a throw away part. JDM will repair & upgrade it for you for anohter $175. The new one will not have this problem. It would have been nice if he would have corrected this mistake for free.
