I wasn't really ripping on you... I do feel bad you got a ticket. I just got my first one in 13 years a month or so ago (not in the L, in my SCCA modified 84 VW Rabbit GTI). I have taken the L past 100 but not on a freeway or such, but a couple real lonely country roads that are long, straight and not too many houses and such. Just be aware, and know that in the city you are really taking chances. I guess I am getting mellow as I get older? I do like stomping people at lights but rarely get too much over the limit... they tend to get the point by 50-60 And I always scan the area before I smack my right foot down...

Cops suck period. They have no excuses of being what they are and I have lost all respect for them. A waste of money, a waste of time, and a waste of life they are.

I've never had a pleasant experience with a cop. I'm a regular joe-citizen. I'm NOT a criminal. I'm NOT perfect but I do consider myself an upstanding citizen and a good person. When I am in need of help on the side of a highway, another good person helps me. Not a cop. When I do NOT need help, I am on the side of the highway with a police officer robbing me of my hard-earned money.

Until I meet a polite, helpful police officer who aids those who pay to protect and help them, I will continue to believe this.

The police officers that I've met are nothing more than men and women who are paid to be good persons, to help those in need and look out for their fellow man. Of course, being a good person comes with a certain risk. When you help a person change their flat tire at night on the side of a road, you assume the risk that you could be aiding a criminal. You are in risk of being attacked. But to be a good person, sometimes that is a risk you accept. To be a good person, sometimes you must have faith that those you help would do the same as you. And I would like to think that any decent human being would do this regardless of a paycheck. And I would like to think that any decent human being holding this job would not abuse the powers we as a nation have faithfully granted them.

Just basing my theories and opinions off of my own personal experiences. Harassed by my "protectors" one too many times.

Flame away if it makes you feel better, more patriotic, or reinforces your self-worth and confidence of being a *good* person. Have a nice day

Charles is just pissed he got a underage drinking ticket

But I agree Charles, there's no good instance to see a cop. Granted they've been cool when someone's hit my truck in a parking lot(3 frickin times this semester), but still I haven't seen any money from that...

But it would suck to be in a cops shoes....The only thing they ever deal with is bad stuff. Weither it be someone hitting my truck, someone speeding, someone killed, or whatnot, it's always a bad thing... And someone ALWAYS loses when a cop shows up...

cyntaxx ,

Try putting yourself in the shoes of an officer. You get yelled at, sworn at, attacked at from others DAILY. Do you want to put up with the BS of someone doing 20 over just for the hell of it?

Curt, what about the time you tried to help one out who was stuck in a ditch?

So basically all you guys are giving cops the right to be a$$holes because they have sh*tty jobs.

Again, I like how people will only defend the fact that cops are a$$holes because they have lousy jobs. No one ever seems to say, "No way, cops are nice! They are helpful and courteous!"

Yeah right....

I used to interact closely with the police in my former occupation. Some of them were really great people who you'd enjoy socializing with, most of them were decent folk who tried to fulfill the motto "To protect and to serve", but there were way too many who were badge heavy and enjoyed choking people out and otherwise being Adam Henrys, in cop jargon. Does the phrase "Rampart Street" ring a bell. And unfortunately too much of this anti-social behavior is tolerated if not condoned by the administration because the arrest rates look good (even if the arrestees were framed), and the fines swell the city coffers. (Just don't get me started on corrupt judges).

Cops choose to do the job they do. Nobody twisted their arms and made them become cops. If being a cop is what you choose to do for a living then you shouldn't use the excuse that you have a dangerous job because thats what you're getting paid to do. If they think there is too much of a risk then they should be a clerk at Burger King or something. The pay is about the same and a lot less risk. JMO!!!

There is no need to put myself in their shoes, they choose the job they do and a lot of them do it because they're on a power trip and unfortunately it's not power over mechanical things that gets them off. If you ask me it's a bad combination.

disclaimer: I would never recommend you do this, it is just an option you have available.
Not in Texas. They changed the law in Sept '01. If you run now, it's a State Jail Felony. I know from experience. I got lucky that my attorney got it dropped to a Class B misdemeanor. I will definitely not run again. I was in my 2000GT at the time...on the juice. I actually lost the cop, but took a couple of turns and landed in a alley that was blocked by some dude making out with a chick at 2:30am If it weren't for that, I'd got away home free.
