did chip and pulley and now pinging
i installed my 2lb lower and a flip chip from psp today. runs alot better but i can hear pinging on wide open throttle. should i go with a different spark plugs. any suggestions. i still have stock plugs in it. i put in some octane booster from auto parts store but dosent seem to help much. what plug should i run or should i call psp for advice. any help appreciated. thanks
no i had the switch off and that puts it in a street program and when i flip it on its in a race program and that requires according to my paper work with chip at least 95 to 103 octane. i swithched it on once and it was way worse on the piniging. thanks for the plug no. i will get some on order tommorrow just no looking forward to installing them. thanks
For now, I would stay out of the powerband. Actually, I would remove the chip and it should run fine without it for only your 2#er. However, if you have anything like a breather cap, remove it when you remove your chip.
Get it reburned. I'm sure Sal will straighten things out...but with race season in full bloom you would have to be patient...
Good luck!

You have to take some timing out of the street program,
thats why it's pinging or detonating. Some Lightning's like more timing than others, SOME DON'T. No two seem to be exactly alike.
With a 2lb Pulley you can safely run no chip and stock plugs
until you get it re-burned from Sal. Your much better off running no chip right now, than you are to detonate.
"DO NOT LET IT DETONATE".
Before you get it reburned make a decision on how aggresive a street tune you want. With higher timing you'll get more ET, but will possibaly encounter pinging or detonation in the colder months. Base it on your driving habits and available octane.
I happen to have mine tuned at low timing, @ 15-16 degrees, and burned for 93 octane pump gas. I do that for safety, but clearly give up 2 - 3/10ths of ET by doing it. It all comes down to the old mighty ET, HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT ???

I got into the high 12s with a 3 lb pulley, open air filter, etc. with the OEM plugs still in. I don't think you have a 'plug' problem but a chip with too much timing.
Btw, off-the-counter 'octane boosters' are almost worthless. They only raise the octane by tenths of a point , ie: 93.4 not 97 octane.

Well, I don't suggest stock plugs even for a stock truck. I'd suggest going with a set of Denso IT20s, or a set of the less expensive TR6s, both are a great plug for +2psi. Set the gap to .038. Then try it again and see how it is. Our street programs are set for 16 degrees and about 11.7 a/f, so you really shouldn't have a problem with the tune, unless your truck is a bit of an oddball and runs different than most. Ususally putting some octane boost in will elimitate the pinging (as a test, not a solution), so since yours still did it, that's a bit strange. Do the plugs, and if that doesn't work, I'll be happy to make a chip adjustment.
