Like I said either way Passport 8500 or Valentine V1 both good products.
And instant on radar is what MOST patrols use. You HAVE TO pay attention to the quick signals you receive. If you get short pulses then most likely you've got someone out looking for you ahead. If it's Laser - good luck.

This is like a tuner war.
I didn't see any reference to upgrades for the Passport but I did see that Escort is coming out with G-Tech like device next month

My 3 year old V1 is eligible for upgrade to the most recent version for $189 - A V1 upgrade is really a brand new complete v1 at a discount as a trade. The only advantage of the upgrades for me would be slightly better Laser sensitivity and the new smaller case. The fact that it comes with all new accessories is cool but I don't need them. The upgrade is more like a windows upgrade in the sense that it is REALLY expensive BUT being a past customer does save you some $$

I vouch for the Valentine One also, it works wonders. Car and Driver said it was the best in their yearly test.

Left side 1/2 way down "One Step Ahead" - "Passport 8500 software can be updated"

You have just entered the radar detector "No Spin Zone"

Having owned both - I can honestly say they are both good units and radartest.com is biased toward the passport 8500 and car and drivers 2002 test is biased toward the V1.

Not firsthand experience,but SVTOA Sec.

showed me his Phantom laser jammer yesterday at a SVT show. He was running both this Phantom and also a radar detector didn't get brand. Both units installed. said Phantom is coming out with a combo laser/radar jammer/detector. Claims his son works for local Dekalb PD and has checked jammer function of Phantom. Walter Henderson is his name a really nice guy who also gave me some great tune info for my L. FWIW he also has a very inexpensive exhaust system ($250) that he did custom. Midas mandrel bent pipes, 2 series 50 mufflers (one on top of other), nice chrome tips installed for the $250. Sounded great!
