Unhappy My Helicoil Came Out!

Well I was running tonight and I lost top end. Missing like a dog! So I find the #5 plug missing. So when I pulled it my helicoil came with it. The end of the plug is fryed. I also had 1gal Toulene in less than half tank. My question is : is what I'm going to expect everytime I pull a plug? Jim has to rerun my chip at FFW! If I don't have another bent valve. You know the saying if " If I didn't have bad luck, I would not have any"!

I never asked this question. But should I change my plugs cold with helicoils? Another Question how do I get it back in!

Damn...sorry to hear it Tim.

I haven't messed with my plugs since getting the truck back, too many tranny issues to worry about plugs. Hope everything turns out ok

I have solid inserts in my heads and have changed the plugs hot and cold maybe 10-15 times in the last month. No problems.

Mine are solids also. Perhaps the detonation heated the two peices togather. It got hot! My valves have 2000 miles on them. I'm praying now that my valves are not bent like my last. LOL!!

That is one reason that solid inserts should not be used in these heads. The only true fix is to use Heli-Coil wire inserts. They will not come out. Solid inserts are a big mistake. You get no benefit in strength. You have more thread engagement on the inside but not the outside where it contacts the head.

mine were not helicoil brand. i looked at the insert before i installed the heads. they were installed in such a way that i do not believe they could come out. i'll post something if they do.

Wes , there's a place down the street that does the spring type coils for 15.00 a peice. I may have them changed since the heads coming off anyway. I did a search and I did not find that info about the types. I may have even asked , don't remember. Its scewed up when you have to keep redoing you modifycations over and over. I'm getting to be a little encyclopedia on Lightning do's and don'ts.
