Does 4x4 Trans Pan Need a Different Filter?

Dumb question, but couldn't find a straight answer in the archives...

I was at the Ford dealer so I stopped by the parts counter to see if they had the 4x4 pan and filter kit. Well the parts guy and trans tech chatted and they seemed to think the filter was the same for all 4R100's, regardless of 4X4 or not. Is this true? The trans pan has nothing to do with the filter, and they are all interchangeable? (i.e. I can re-use my existing filter when installing the pan?) Or are the filters the same, but the filter "kit" varies slightly?

Thanks in advance!

he is a dumby, you need a different filter, because the pan is deeper, filter intake has to be deeper too

OK, I should have known something was fishy when the parts guy showed up in a golf cart and they used a dirt bike to check the "warehouse."

Do you guys happen to have a part number I can take to another dealer, in case they give me the same blank stare?

Here ya go.....

Ford part number F81Z-7A194-BA or get your filter at Autozone, Deutch TF-325.
The gasket is reusable, do not use the cork gasket that comes with the filter.

Thanks, any difference in the Ford part and the Doetsch TF-325 available in Autozone? (quality, fitment, etc)

No differences in quality... Factory Tech recommends the Deutsch TF-325. Plus it's a cheaper price.

Just go to Autozone and tell them you want a transmission filter and the number is TF-325.

Don't forget you can reuse the gasket. I have drained mine and pulled the pan 4 or 5 times now. I get bored sometimes

Ben: Is your L lowered? How much? At least one guy had the drain plug 'boss' torn off when he rode over a bump(or something) as that pan has the plug lower than some other pans.

Cool Deep Pan/Filter

If you are still in the market LFP offers the Ford deep sump trans. pan with proper filter for $49.00.
