Need Help - Exhaust Volume driving me nuts

I just had a MAC exhaust from LFP installed. I love the look, esp those oversize tips but I do have a question? Is everyone's this loud? At WOT it sounds GREAT. But on the freeway it drones on loudly. I cant hear myself think. And, I cant hear the bass track on any of my music. (and I have 2 subs). I'm thinking about dynomat for the cab now, but is there a way to quiet this thing down when I'm cruising? it's odd. the idle/cruising sound is probably 30% of the volume of full WOT. Seems like it should be more like 5-10%. My truck kinda sounds like an '85 5.0 LX with flowmasters

I've only had it on for a day but already It's driving me crazy. I make a lot of 5-8 hour road trips and I think with this noise level I'll be deaf by hour 3.

Loud?

I guess that would just be based on what your perception of loud is. I have a MAC and neither me or my wife find it overly loud. As a matter of fact, SHE is the one that thought the stock exhaust sounded way too wimpy. I know it's pretty loud on the outside. Like I said, perception, I like it. Hindsight is everything but you probably could have hooked up with some people from here to get an earful of the different exhausts before buying. Anyway, I understand there are some Magnaflows that are just a little louder and deeper than stock. Lucky for you that the problem is only with a 300.00 exhaust and not a 700.00 one.

well, thats the kicker. I did hear the MAC on a couple trucks and loved the sound. Somehow I've got an in-cab drone that's MUCH louder than normal. The WOT sound is perfect, but it doesnt quiet down much just driving around. You have to strain to carry on a conversation on the highway.

Wow I've heard the MAC in person and didn't think it was loud at all. The WOT sounded meaner than stock but that's about it.

Unless they're different

My wife has driven the L to work for a week a little while back and I could hear her a block away in a residential area. She wasn't nailing it but she stepped on it a little like I asked (25 mph zone) In my opinion, definately louder than stock. Quite a bit louder than stock on mine. Not to mention that I did hear this exhaust on a friend's truck and bought it from him when he traded for an Expedition (WTH?).

must be a breakin thing.

well, the low-RPM drone seems to have quieted down a little bit now that I have some miles on it. Hopefully it will continue to mellow out a bit. I love the sound when you get on it, but the background noise (betwen 1800-2600 RPM) was pretty bad.

I don't have the Mac exhaust but I had the same problem with My Magnaflow. I took it to a local shop to see what could be done. He told me the muffler was directional and was installed backwards. This made the muffler act as a straight pipe because the baffels weren't slowing down the flow. He turned it around and the drone is gone. They sound great and I can here what my passanger is saying. I don't know if this would be the same on the Mac. Hope this helps!

Entirely possible! That would be bad though, since the cops could hear me and I couldnt hear the sirens

Well, I got on it again today. Its actually LOUDER when at idle and cruise then at WOT. It quiets down when you get on it. I'm gonna check the installation and see if something's loose (or backwards). If that doesnt fix it, I guess I'll see if I can get MAC to send me a replacement.

I'm going to try to make it, at least for a day. I've got a trial though and we usually work through the weekends so maybe not. Clients can be such taskmasters
