Gains from JDM intake??

Any proven gains with a JDM cool air intake? I am in the market for one and want to know if it is worth it. Also, would it work better if i built a custom box around it so it blocks the hot air from the engine and that way it will only come in through the fender well. I think jpl has a box around theirs and a couple others. I would get the jpl one or the psp fastair but i drive in the rain and snow alot and am worried about getting water into my engine. Any ideas or suggestions?? Thanks.

Our PSP FASTair is designed specifically to not allow water to get into the motor. Can't happen. Impossible. Just FYI since you mentioned it.

Actually i like your system alot. i was considering it but i drove in the snow this winter and had alot of snow build up under my front valence. I thought that would hurt it. I dont really understand how water cant get in but i believe you over my thinking... Could you explain the physics behind why water wont get in? Also do u have any proven gains with it. I am on a quest to hit 12s without a chip and voiding my warrantee so i cant do a chip yet until i get a better job and afford to blow my engine... Thanks

The reason water cant get in is because there is no vacuum there. Nothing to "suck" the water in. I've got the JLP intake and I love it PSP is about the same......just pushes air in the end and the bottom and now the box is aluminum i believe

Water can't get in for several reasons. For one, the hoses are not directly attached to the filter. So any water or debris that makes it's way up the hoses simply falls to the bottom of the airbox, and we have the two open sections to allow drain off so it doesn't stay in the box. Also, the filter we use with out filter kit is oil impregnated, so it repels water. And if you want triple protection, get one of our Outerwears, and they are also water repellant. Hope this helps.

If i order the psp fast air i have to order a filter kit also right. They are not included it is seperate correct. also what do u think is best bang for my buck which is just a bolt on to not void my warranty.

Cool

Sal,

You know better than to say impossible. Now some jacka$$ will accidently drive it in 5 foot of water just to prove you wrong, LMAO.

I never seen a trace of water in mine.

Vinny, 12s with no chip are possible, but will cost you more because you'll have to subsitute a $255 chip for lots of other parts to make up the missing performance. You may be able to get away with a 4lb pulley, that will help, but you'll NEED to check your A/F immediately. A valve body will make the shifts a bit quicker, not as much as what I do in the chip, but it will lessen the torque reduction pause some. An electric fan will free up some HP, and some Truck Traks will help you hook, as will some sticky tires. That should get you in the 12s as long as your A/F is safe with the pulley.

Hehe, driving through 5 feet of water will drive water past the STOCK airbox and filter .

You will need to order both. The FASTair is an upgrade for our filter kit. Some people consider it pricey to buy both, but you are also getting much higher quality parts than other peoples copies of our system.
