Question Fair price for an L

I am thinking of getting a Lightning that is for sale in Big Timber, MT. IT is a red '99 with 56000 miles in good condition. The previous owner was supposedly a Harley dealership owner who took good care of it. Only thing not stock appears to be a Sony cd player and a brake controller for a trailer. They are asking $17,500. Does this sound like a fair price? Thanks for any help you can lend.

If that puppy has a brake controller, you can bet it was used as a tow vehicle many times. Look the truck over real well and then when you drive it, get in and run it to drive and then reverse with the door open and listen for any loud noises coming from the rear differential and tranny. I'd offer 15 and see if they take it.

A quick check at edmunds.com shows that price to be about right. They say dealer price is more like $19k. Private party seller is $17,100. It all depends upon the condition. Also check to make sure it had the intercooler replaced with the newer model that doesn't leak. If it hasn't, that's about a $700-800 repair (I think).

Like Frank says, offer them less and see if they bite.

I will check the intercooler, so what should I look for or should I just search the posts? Thanks for the help.

Just have the service department run a check to see if it had the replacement put in. It should be in their records. I'm not sure if there's a easy visual way to check.
