Crower Cam- How To's
Is installing cam and springs a weekend job or is it longer. What about a How to Install form. I want the stage 2 kit but can I do it with the engine in? What's the steps?
Thanks
Thanks
Boy, your in for some hell if you think you going to do it in the engine. I also hope you have the cam lock tools and the misc tools to do it. Also, good luck on the springs.
Got the lash caps too?
Yank the heads, you will thank me later.

In process of doing the same job. You will need to pull the heads to change springs, been there-tried that! Most say it is easier to pull the motor to get to the heads. I did not and it was a long job; more than a week-end to get it back together (think two week-ends if you are fast and dedicated. Also figure a~300 for gaskets and head bolts.
Be aware of fact that there are a lot of problems with spring breakage. If you did not pay in neighborhood of $250 for springs, you likely have some that do not like the higher (>0.550") lift of the Crower and ModMax cams. My suggestion would be to buy Comp cams. Stay with either the "mildest".550 lift cam for the PI heads or go a bit wilder with the 0.500" cams. The Comp cams have more duration and less lift. This will let you get by without changing the springs (pulling motor and/or heads). Will save you a ton of work and money. The stock springs are very reliable, just do not tolerate as much lift or quite as much ramp rate.
Lash caps not neded with new cams, needed with re-grinds due to small base circle.

I'm having my heads and cams replaced next week, if the headds arrive on time. Went with stage II heads and modmax cam. I went with good aftermarket springs, but stuck with milder street/strip cams rather than all out race. I'll let you know how it goes.
