Torque Converter spacing

Does anyone have 1/4" spacing between the flywheel and the converter. I have a P&I converter and I had to use 1/16" spacers to get it under 1/4". P&I recommends 3/16" or less. I was just curious as to what everyone else has encountered on this. I was told that you only need 1/8" inside the pump to run it!!!! Any feedback appreciated. Some say spacers and some say not!!!!
Thanks
Mike

Spacers are not needed. Make sure that baby is fully seated or you will be pulling it apart in three weeks.

Mike, you misundersttod me on the 1/8 in, that's not what I meant, when it's all the way in, on a sotck converter, 1.8 is how much of the hub sticks above the pump gear, something you can't see because it's inside the pump, when we were talking I was (just lucky) working on a pump I had on the bench and I took the gear out of the pump and put it on a converter to see what we were discussing, I'm still of a mind that you basically can't put it too far in, the flats prevent it from going too far. I'm really uncomfortable witht he whole "use spacers to fit" idea myself. We'll talk about it tomorrow.
