So hard to hear detonation over the blower and my exhaust

How else can I know if everything's alright? I have a 4# lower and a pro m 80 mm and Paul at rem said it's hard to tune for.
He says the pro m sometimers throughs more timing at ya sometimes or even less, how is that? Should I just go back to the stock 80mm and air box if I don't upgrade to the 90mm?
I dont want anything to happen to my motor and I want a safe tune on my chip. The last time I hear detonation was on my way home around 1am and it was cold out. The thermometer in my truck read ice and then 38 degrees I think was the highest it read. So I took it easy and I got it home and that was that. I called paul and he said my timing was at 18 or 19 and he said he can lower the timing and add a little more fuel...
BUT sense it's been nice out 70-80 degrees here I can't hear any detonation. I've tried getting on it and i've been at wot in 2nd and 3rd gear and it pulled hard and felt good. And sounded ok... Should I keep the program I have or get a reburn and go lower timing and risk having a "sled" but keep I'll my rods together....
Any advise b4 I go to the track Tuesday? Check my plugs and can i see how the detonation was or no? Thanks, Shane

Pro-M and chip destroyed my first motor. Now I have a 90mm and a different chip (and tuner) on this motor. No problems so far.

That is a lot of timing for 93 octane, but I'm not a tuner or something. The chip I'm running right now is 13.5° timing on the street side(93 octane) with 15psi boost(it also works well with a 100shot.)

Thumbs down Pro-M

My tuner told me 2 years ago that the Pro-M meter was very inconsistant, and very hard to tune properly. After hearing this, I installed the 90 mm MAF from the '01 and up Lightnings on my 2000 L, and had the chip tuned for it. Never any problems with the Ford 90 mm and I'm happy with my latest run down the Q-mile which netted me a 11.84 pass @ 113.90 MPH. Thumbs down on the Pro-M meter, the Ford unit ROCKS !!! John H

what should my timing be at? 17 to high? can anyone else chime in here?
I live in Illinois and I run 93 octane all the time. What else...
The pro M I am going to try to update to the 90. I'm just wondering if I'm safe to run this tuesday. What should my plugs look like if I look at one. And what one should I look at? (whats the leanest cylender #5?) About the pro M not being consistant, I've heard that also. I got it for free, and it was the first thing I threw on my truck, so when I get the chance to upgrade to the ford 90 I will. I just dont want to blow anything up Tuesday, should I lower some timing AND get the 90 mm or lower timing and run with pro M, or sit out and get a reburn and go another day....

Dump the Pro-M

Get rid of the BLOW-M and get a Ford 90 MM and any of the 3 Big tuners can set you up with a good, safe tune that will give you good results and peace of mind, John H.

My timing on my street side is 16 or 17 and higher on the race side. My street side is also set up for sh*tty 91 oct in case i run into some bad gas.

whast should my timing be at with the 90mm 16-17 or so sound ok for a conservative program? I just think 19 is way to high.
My question is can I run this tuesady 2 or 3 times with the timing where it is on the pro M?

I found that one from REM and it says it's only $105 so i may pick that one up... my question is it says "There is a $75.00 core charge on unit refundable upon return." Can i ship them my stock 80mm and when they recieve that just buy the 90mm for $105...?R.E.M.

You might be ok with the pro-m and you might not. They are just to inconsistent, My A/F ratio was way to lean due to the
pro-m. Now i'm back to the stock 80mm. At least your tuner will admit the PRO-M can be dangerous. I had to prove it to mine, same meter on two different trucks on dyno, A/F's way to lean.

i haven't had any problems with it before. My service engine soon ligh has been on since I put that on, but was told that was normal with a meter and chip??? will the ses go off with the ford 90mm? My last question is, with the timing around 18-19 like paul said, can there still be detonation there even on a warm day that I can't hear? I am wanting to know if it's safe to run at the track tuesday or if i need to contact paul about a reburn and upgrading to the 90 asap.

There is no way to tell if that ammount of timing is safe, it all depends on how hot your meter is. Thats why you should get the 90mm they are all the same. If you dont hear anything id say your probably ok. Your check engine light shoulndt come on with a chip of a pro-m though.

yeah I'm not sure why it's on either... But since I put on the pro M it's been on. I am going to try to upgrade to the 90mm soon...
