Hi-Flow Cats & stock muffler

Ok, I'm reaching out to all the "Guru's" out there. I know the Long tubes are sweet, but since it is known that the stock muffler is a good piece from the factory, why not put an X pipe before that and install a set of single hi-flow cats on the down tubes. Or is it that the stock manifolds are very restrictive as well? I don't plan on running the Juice or upping my pulley to 8# or a blower change. You know $1,700 for an exhaust isn't cheap. So I'd like to maximize my $$$.

JBA Shorties, X-Pipe Bassani with Cats and stock mufflers? Or just the X-Pipe Bassani with Cats?

Make me smart. Otherwise I'll just buy the whole system and know it does the job.

1) Shorty headers won't give you much power. Not worth it.

2) Our stock manifolds are restrictive.

3) Hi-flo cats would free up some horsepower. I've heard some good things about the Carsound units. I think Flying **** reported some significant increases in rwhp and rwtorque but I don't want to speak for him. Maybe he will chime in.

4) If you're just after power alone, I don't see a catback being a very cost-effective way to get it. The hi-flos are supposed to give you some power and are cheaper than a Bassani or Silver Bullet catback. However, I haven't the #s that hi-flos alone put out with an otherwise stock setup.

My advice is to look towards other ways to gain power. I don't know your mods but I would recommend other things on top of a chip/pulley/filter combo like an e-fan, etc. As for the full-meal-deal 1700+ setup, I'd save my pennies and tackle the exhaust when I'm good and ready with enough mods to be able to squeeze out decent power from a less-restrictive exhaust.

My ultimate goal for exhaust would be some JDM step headers, 3 inch midpipe, and a catback of my choice. No cats.

Hope this helps.

All I have is a 6#, Chip, filter/intake, single-blade & valve body. On ET's it ran 12.7 @ 107+. I didn't pull the spare and tailgate. The truck had good MPH considering I was hot lapping. I know the electric fan and water pump help as well. I guess when you get into the 12's it's real tough to get into the low 12's without spending mucho $$$. All I can do now is the exhaust and converter. All I want is low, low 12's.
