Thought I Blew it up today at the track .

I thought for sure a rod went today but its looking more like a head gasket . My 1st run of the day I ran a 12.8 but my MPH was only 102 which confused me a bit because it felt strong thriough the whole run .Then the next run about at the end there was a puff of smke and then she died. After pulling in the pits I looked it over and it didnt lose too much oil but theres lots of colant mixed with it on the stick . It also turns over nice with no knocking what so ever . Oh well looks like ill be ripping it down next weekend . My buddy is a Ford tech and hes gonna help Maybe its time for a short block ??? Paying for playing!!gotta love it !!

Does it still run. My plan if i blow a head gasket is to take it in for a stolen computer then come back a second time for the head gasket. I know ill get flamed for this

Not really, I just know its going to happen. If its just a head gasket ill fix it and im sure that something else will happen someday .Im not going to get pissed when IM the one who choose to mod it and test its limits . Thats why I will do the repairs and not try to have Ford foot the bill. We know what the breaking point is with these trucks and if we choose to push it somethings gonna break . Then you have a choice ,fix it so it dont break or put it back to stock and lick your wounds .

retics4me,

I just want to say your a stand up guy! You all know that I work for Ford and I too have a heavely moded Lightning. I won't have Ford pay for my play.

By the way I have an extra set of head gaskets that I bought with my Ford 25% off discount I'll sell you for what I have in them and I'll pay shipping!

Peace, Suavy

Your motor is Junk.If you have anti freeze IN the oil,You most likely ruined your lower bearings which WILL NOT start knocking until you change the oil and drive it a few miles. If you just blew the gasket and it was going out the exhaust,You would be fine but dont waste your money if you got water in the oil.Im just trying to save you some time and energy. This applies to all engines not just L

Does anyone else find it odd that the motor completely SHUT OFF, when he blew a HG? Usually they'll run maybe like crap, or something like that, but to totally shut down?!?!?! There's still probably 6 cylinders that are somewhat OK that should keep the truck running..

I think there's more to this..

IMO a 6# lower by itself will not ruin a motor. And high 12s is not even close to the breaking point of these trucks.

I've seen trucks run a lot more power (and stress) and not have the severe problems you are facing.

Of course, this is just speculation since I don't know the mileage on your truck, your list of mods, AFs, timing, etc. etc. Hell, I don't even know if the blown HG is your only worry.

No flame intended and I hope you get everything straightened out and come back bigger and better!

I hear you and thanks . I guess I will find out when I look into it . If i need a new motor then so be it . Then I can play with the big boys

cyntaxx ,It should have run better than high 12s . That 12.8 run I went through the traps at 102 mph. My dumb A$$ should have realized something was wrong .Lightning Struck93

Lightning Struck93 ,Me too .

about the only mods I had when I ran that was a 2# ,chip,t.b and filter .Actually that was in 01 when I ran that . Last year I only made it the track once.

I added the general mods that everyone does . Except headers that is next ..
