EMERGENCY! need help with RUSLOW QA1 shocks problem installing, in time for CECIL!!!!

hi guys, I'm having a little trouble.

I bought a set of QA1's from Ruslow a few months back.

being the procrastinator that I am I let them sit in my garage until tonight.

I am trying to get them installed in time to go to Cecil county for the SSOTN event tomorrow morning (meaning tonight because I have to leave tonight to get there).

I haven't even gotten to the rear yet, but the fronts don't seem to be long enough or something. with the shock fully extended there just isn't enough thread sticking through the hole in the frame to get a bushing on either side and start a nut.

the instructions are sortof lacking detail. They say to use the stock shock's upper bushings and washers, but the top washer has different threads and if I use the bottom washer and bushing it is too tall to get a nut started on the top?

has anyone run into this before?

please help so I can go home and hit the road for cecil.

this is not a slam to stan (ruslow) I just need some info. I already tried to call him, but got an answering machine.

thanks,
chris

THANKS!!!

I am eternally grateful for that link!

gotta get back to work.

I had sortof done it like that.

only instead of cutting the stock lower bushing (the one with the cone on it), I had just ripped the stock top bushing of of the washer with the nut on it and used it as the bottom bushing.

I think I'm going to take it back apart and do it that way though, I like the idea of having the little cone part still partially there to center things up and contact the qa1 small upper bushing.

thanks again Speedin Bob!

I really appreciate the help.

later,
chris

P.S. almost forgot, big thanks to Tim Skelton for taking the time to do that site!

I am continually impressed with Tim's skills, modding(all kinds), pics, hints, narrative, etc. He is one of the Lightning 'treasures'

And Speedin Bob is pretty too!

Chris, if your truck is lowered I hope you are using Ruslow's heim joint mounting kit. Too many reports of the QA1s binding and breaking, especially on lowered trucks.

I do wonder about that, I mean, I know about the binding, but I'm one of the lower trucks, I race both auto-x and track, and I have not broken the shock yet.

I do plan on putting heim's on shortly, just havn't gotten to it. :)

Thanks for the kind words, fellas. It makes it all worthwhile--after all, you guys are who the site is written for!

But I must emphasize (without any false modesty) that 90% of what is on my site is simply a collection of things I learned around here -- in other words, YOUR collective wisdom. Only the other 10% (like the QA1 install pics) is my contribution, which is usually borne from my own install mistakes.

I get e-mails all the time asking me about this or that I put on my truck and how awesome my truck is. But the plain fact is that I do not have most of the mods on my Web site. My mods are listed here.
