Insurance money, finally, maybe
Most policies require you to list items that were not a manufacturer installed item on the truck. They usually will charge a premium for the additonal coverage. If you did not list the items on the policy then there is a limit, even with receipts, that the insurance co. will pay. Your best bet is to challenge what they valued the truck itself. I would get prices and proof of what simular trucks have sold for and what it would cost to purchase a simular truck. Get both private party and dealership purchase and sale prices. Use these figures to negotiate the settlement. The first offer is usually them offering you less so that they don't have such a large loss. Use the above as a strategy to get treated fairly. Do not accept any checks or sign any papers untill you are satisfied.
If it were me, I'd get the appraiser. Yes, the possibility is there that you'll lose that $100 or so. Remember, you can even barter on his fee. When you're talking thousands of dollars, $100 is small price to pay for what you might be able to recoup.
thanx for all the help, i think i will just do a little research, and see what some L's are/ were going for. i also need to ask how they came up with the value for my truck. oh and i also have my stock set of rims and tires, basically new, about 2500 miles on 'em. let me know if anyone is interested!
