What is the best street tire?
It's time again for new rubber and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any tires? The tires I have looked into so far are:
1. Toyo Proxes T1-S
2. Nitto 555
3. Nitto 555R
I was thinking about going with the 555's up front and the 555R's in the back but I don’t want to compromise handling/wet performance. I'm also having a real hard time making a choice because I cant find any hard facts on tires. When I search for mods for the motor I can look at dyno sheets to help me make a choice, but with tires, I don’t know, how do you make an educated decision?

I have nitto 245/55/18's in the front and nitto 555R's in the back. I made record time coming home from NMRA in GA last night in a rain storm. The Nitto 555R's have about 7K miles on them. 1700 miles this week and 5K last year. They hook good and did well in the rain. I obviously didn't gun it, because I probably would have died. I did also have some 200lbs in the bed of the truck which may have helped it stay on the road. 80-140 mph on the return trip and I did 14 mpg.
I am running the 555's in the front and the 555R's in the rear as well. I really like this set up. The 555R's really hook extremely well for a street tire. Plus they don't affect daily driving at all except for they don't last very long. In my opinion any other tire on the rear of a street driven L excpet for the Nitto 555R's is useless. Why have all this hp if you can put to the ground? Spinning ain't Winning!!! LOL

About the tires, I guess I am in the minority, but I still think the Goodyear F1's are still the best overall tire for our trucks. I have allmost as much power as anyone on the board, and I am sticking with the Eagle F1's.
ET Streets or Hoosier QTP's are not recommended for street use at all!!!
They have NO tread! They are DOT legal but you would be foolish to drive them in the rain! Not to mention that they are not radials and you should never mix radials and non radials on the same vehicle as far as handling goes!
I have both ET Streets and QTP's and I run them short distances from my house to the track in good weather and that's it!!
If you want a DOT tire and maximum traction and don't care about not having radials then you would be better with the treaded slicks, such as M/T's sportsman pro or Hoosier version!

If you want them to last get the Toyo's. I got 42,000 miles out of a set on my 99. They don't stick as well as the new F1's (I don't remember when the F1's were improved, 2000 or 2001 seem like) but they are every bit as good as the F1's that came on my 99 and they last twice as long.

I have Toyo Proxes and they hook up well, they seem to grip pretty good in the rain. I've never driven on Nitto's or anything other than the stock F1's.
It's hard to compare though since I went to 22's the whole truck feels different.

Just bought toyo proxes s/t. Havent had a chance to test them yet as Michigan has snow still
I dont think the t1-s come in our stock 295/45-18 size, unless you have aftermarket wheels.
