Besides getting that depressed feeling, what happens when you let off the gas pedal. Now, before you start bashing me with, "you slow down, doofus," let me be more specific.
Do you coast with no really noticeable slow down, or does the truck feel and sound like you downshifted...almost like engine breaking, but not as harsh? That's what mine does, and I've been driving an Escort for so long, I can't remember if my '01 did it or not.
First weird noises...now this. The only thing that's keeping me from being a paranoid hypochondriac like Howard Hughes is money.

Cool...I just made it to "Senior Member."

You are paranoid
Mine does the same thing, It seems to always feel like
your fighting the tranny, take your foot off and it slows you down almost like a downshift. Works for me

Something called "decel fuel shut-off" started in '02 or '03. the truck will stop injecting fuel under certain conditions turning the engine into a large air pump. Ford uses this on many products. It's surprising that the L didn't have it from day one.
This produces the increased engine braking compared to past trucks.

Both my 2001 and 2003 coast forever. Scared the chit out of me when my brother (who drives a 96 Bronco) almost overran another car while driving my L - he was expecting the L to coast down a lot quicker than it actually did!

Hey when you guys put that little lever on D does your truck start going automatically without even hitting the gas? Mine seems to move forward even though my foot is off the gas pedal when in D
