i usually hose my engine off with it running... i try not to aim the water at the filter kit. lol

 

I washed/cleaned my eng. and eng. bay a couple of weeks ago. I did it the same way I've been doing on all my EFI engs. The connectors Ford(and others) are using are pretty damn good at being 'water-tight'. Btw, I think the dielectric grease that I globbed onto the coil boot when I changed plugs, helps keep moisture away from the plug and coil spring/wire.

I sprayed the entire area(except the open air filter) with a Meguiar cleaner--let it sit for 15 mins. or so, sprayed water all(except, I covered my Plasma Booster box with a sandwich baggie--and avoided the air filter) over it with my garden hose to get the cleaner and grease,oil, etc off the eng. I then started the eng and drove it for about 20 mins. to dry it off.

Then I sprayed a Meguiar Protectant(not as good as others I've used, btw) on everything(except the air filter) to give it a low-gloss sheen. I then drove it to work the next day. When I got back home, I took a hand-towel(a diaper is good) and wiped off the protectant's excess.

I've never(going back to my 1986 Saab Turbo) had an EFI eng fail to start up after this washing procedure.

Did the same thing about two years ago...

ONE coil pack was fried in the process... DOn't know if it was just time for that one to go, or if water somehow caused the problem...

Ok, as long as you know for sure you didnt knock any connections off by accident and you have no check engine light, your problem is definitely gonna be a wet coil pack, or packs. What happens is like RTKILLA said. They get wet and the water lays around them, then is able to get by and drip down those long holes and get around the spark plug, where the coil pack clips onto the spark plug. It will take a while to dry out on its own. I would try and figure out which cylinder/cylinders its missing on, and pull off that coil pack/packs and dry them real good, and dry down the hole real good also. Do not take out the spark plug whatever you do, cause whatever water is laying down there will run into the motor. If you dont get it to clear out, what happens next is you end up with fouled out plugs cause they keep getting sprayed with gas, but they are not firing the gas. Hope I helped. Mike
