Swapping '00 heads with '02 heads >>

Has anyone heard of or seen any difference in the heads between the years? I have a '00 and I bought a set of '02 heads to swap on to my block. Is there anything that needs to be swapped or changed to make them operate correctly?

The truck was back together but it wouldn't start and seemed to have issues with timing etc so we thought it may be the timing chain was off a tooth, but it didn't turn out that way.

I'm wondering if there are any actual difference between the '00 and '02 heads......anyone know ?

No difference.Sound like you have the cam timing off.Make sure that on the driver side head that the protrucing mark is facing downwards and NOT used to time that cam.The cam timing mark is almost 170 degrees from it.Stan

Stan,

We seem to have the heads on correctly, but there seems to be an issue with compression in #2, which is the one that popped the plug. I think it's gas soaked. Trying to get some compression up on it....hopefully it turns out ok...if not I'm screwed.

It's been sitting for about three months since the plug popped and then another three weeks in the shop with the heads off. Hopefully we can get the compression back up and get it going again....any suggestions ?

BTW-I got the Pulleys put on as well...hopefully I'll be able to get some use out of them soon

Thanks for the help.

When you installed the heads did you have the motor at TDC?and have the cams real close to where they are to be timed at?If not when you rolled the motor over or the cams to the marks you might of had a valve hit the piston and put a slight bend in it.what is the compression? Can you cyl leak it?that will tell you where the psi is going.Stan

I would like to back up what Ruslow is saying about cam timing. I was off one tooth and bent valves slightly....then proceded to bend more then slightly ........ and off went the timing chain ... then all hell broke lose. If your down in one cylinder you better look at your valves.
