Friend of mine threw a rod through his oil pan!!!

WOW... I didn't believe my friend was running 20 pounds of boost! I heard today he had the 10#er on and i was like no way... I see it now. I get a call asking for Johnny Lightning's number... I ask why and he says he broke a con rod... I was like really? He then told me he tossed it through the block. I get up to the dealership and there's oil EVERYWHERE under his truck and they are pulling it into the shop... Everyone warned him not to run 20#'s and to build the block b4 he runs that much boost.
WOW!

Its a 2000 with a 3.73, delta chip, shorty headers, Bassani exhaust, 90 mm mass air, cold air intake, and single blade throttle body.
He recently got the kenne bell blower, and a 9# lower and 2 uppers. Not sure what upper he was running today but his gauge WAS reading 20#'s. The truck has like 23,000 miles on it and the new KB has about 10-15 miles on it if that!

I dont think it matters what yeat he was running. With that much boost on stock bottom end you are gonna ventilate the block.

That's not too bright...even JL himself says not to run over 16-17 with the KB on a stock block.

What an idiot. Didn't you post a thread about this a while ago wanting opinions of how much boost your friend should run on his KB with a stock lower end?

Well now he has a 4600 lb. paperweight!

Hey if he wants to sell that Bassani catback or maybe the KB, let me know. I would feel like a vulture doing this but since this is already Darwinism in action I figured....

On my 2000 I had 3.73, cobra trottle body, 90mm maf, 2lb lower, diffrent upper but not sure lb, full bassani exhaust, 2400 stall converter, 100 shot of nitrous, and a super chip. I also blew a hole in the block you could get up under the truck and see the hole in the oilpan. Also I put my hand on the peice that runs under the oil pan and there were little chunks of twisted metal every where. Next week my PSP built long block is going in, can't wait to drive it. Thanks Sal.

Sorry to hear anyone blew a motor

Big lower pulleys and Big Boost create a massive amount of extra cylinder pressure AND HEAT. I may decide to NOT put my upper back on and just stay with the 4lb lower and the juice, I feel much much safer with 4lbs than I do with 6lb's on a stock block.
More than that, and I think you are absolutely pushing your luck.
V likes to run in the Danger zone himself, right V

Besides, I already know my L runs easy 12's on F-1's with Filter-Chip-n-4lb. With juice, that should be a 11.9 to 12.3
That's all I can expect for now.

Man that new RX8 is sounding better and better each day
