If it is from normal carbon buildup and your rings are not sealing like they should then a treatment of Auto-RX will reduce the oil consumption. I would do that just to rule out this possibility.

If that treatment makes no difference then you are looking at other possibilities like PCV valve, blown head gasket, leaking gasket, etc.

Your rings need to move freely to seal, and your oil needs to be able to flow through the engine as it was designed to. Sludge, soot, and carbon build up causes your engine to run hotter and prevent your rings from sealing as they are designed to.

Whatever happened to that 03 Cobra that was supposedly denied warranty? I hate not knowing the ending to stories.

 

well, it's on an engine stand right now being dissassembled, warranty still voided. bearing damage

 

What's the reason for voiding the warranty? Bearing damage at 300 miles seems almost impossible unless something drastic was being done to the engine. Were their any mods on the engine? or was the guy caught at the local strip tearing up the 1/4 mile? Does the computer store any information as to how the car is being driven?

Your insight to warranty problems might save several others the agony before it happens.

 

I can't fully explain why this one was voided, it was done at another dealership.

the bearings, crankshaft and connecting rods are damaged.

Frankly I'm not in a position to speak for ford's reasoning or justify it, but I guess they say that the guy abused the car (during the breakin period no less) and they voided the warranty.

the front tires have 10/32nds tread depth and the rear tires have only 5/32nds! he wore half of the tread off of a set of F1s in just TWO DAYS worth of driving! I sold my red truck with the stock f1s at around 10,000 miles and even after a year and countless trips through the burnout box and lots of hard street driving I still had more tread than that left... The clutch is burned up as well.

ford is cracking down majorly on everything and (right or wrong) it is up to the consumer to prove them wrong. good luck.

I also have a blown (rods) 01 Lightning on the lot that came in with no mods present but a scraped pcm and superchips literature in the glove box and Ford voided this one as well.

Ford is specifically instructing inspectors to look AT the pcm board to see if it has been cleaned/sanded for a chip. apparently this is grounds for voiding.

I've been burning about 2 1/2 quarts every 3k miles. I also have an oil separator and need to empty it each time I fill the fuel tank.

My truck has 43,000 miles and has never used more than a half a quart between oil changes. I have a breather cap, but no seperator.

 

I thought the cobra's were pre-broken in or something to that effect...

If that Cobra wasn't mod'd I don't see why Ford doesn't have to warranty it.

Did they think people were going to buy it and NOT drive the **** out of it?!?!

That would be like Peterbilt denying warranty on a 18 wheeler because it towed a trailer...

 

45k no oil consumption

 

It appears that some engines like mine are guzzling oil like an alcoholic with a botlle of Jack Daniels, while others are only burning the normal amount which should be about 1/2 quart every 3000 miles. SOme engines probably have much tighter tolerances than others.

 

Actually it would be like Peterbuilt denying a warranty for towing a trailer at WOT, extremely hard jackrabbit starts and frying a clutch in 300 miles.

 

I guess im lucky or something, because my truck has never used any oil between oil changes, I change the oil every 3000 miles.

I traded in a 99L that did not burn any oil.
My 2001 has since new burned a quart every 1500 to 1600 miles.
I have the PCV oil filter also. My next oil change, in about 2 weeks
I will be putting in 5W-30W, to see if that helps.
