I was coming home from my girlfriends house last night and it was 2 in the morning and there was no one on the streets... I like driving at that time of night. But i come across this red 96 or so, Cobra with a cowl hood and some exhaust. It sounded real good. I dont normally like mustangs. But the cobra catches my eye. So we're crusing down 59 a main street down town and im coming up on my turn to get off on a side street and head home... The cobra flies by me (sounds real nice) and then lets off the gas so i eventualy catch up to him going normal speed... But then he down shifts to like 1st gear (from 30-40 mph roll). I guess he wanted to hear his car rumble (red line). So we're at a red light and its just us no the street and i look over at him and i wanted to race so i shake my head yeah. Then he reves his up, it turns green, and he takes off and gets me outa the hole... I hit it after a rolling launch and i fly by him and shut down at like 80 or so.... We both slowed down cause the next light was red. So he rolls the window down and says, "Damn that trucks fast..." I said your's isnt so bad yourself... So he's like man give me another chance, i had ya outa the hole... I was like nah i gota go, i live right here. (and i pointed to the left) Right then I look up and over and theres a cop sitting at the same red light we are except he's going South on 59 and we are going North... The light turns green and the Cobra takes off again, and i can tell he saw the cop cause first it was WOT, then it was normal driving and he shot down a side street and we both headed home... The cop didnt stop either of us... But i'd love to see what that car had under the hood for mods... It sounded real good and it seemed to have a real strong 1'st and 2nd gear... That suprised me... But that was the highlight of my night and it was great to have the truck back after being in the shop for 2 weeks getting tranny work....
The only reason i bring this up is because when the truck was in the shop i honestly was thinking about trading the truck in for a new cobra! That's wierd for me because i dont normally like mustangs. There's so many of them around here, and honestly i dont think there that fast... Some can be made very fast, but my first sports car was a trans am and i really liked that...

I love my truck and i told myself i wouldn't sell it for double what i payed for it, IF i couldnt buy another Lightning in place of it. That was every day up untill It goes in the shop for the first time.
Then the day it is in the shop i get all worked up and start thinking funny... I was upset with my car, when really it was my fault it was in there... Any car i have i think will be in the shio cause i drive them hard.
But its out and everythings ok and it seems to be better than ever... I washed my truck today and it looks great and I am more than happy with owning my truck over any car right now.

An awsome update to the story.... I was at school today telling all my friends about my kill and i asked a friend of mine with a Mustang who owns the Ford dealership if he knows of anyone with the 96-98 cobra, red... and b4 i could finish he asked Cowl Hood? Exhaust? I was like yeah... I'm like thats a bad *** car... And he's like DON'T MESS WITH THAT CAR! i was like really? it fast... just playing along with him and he's like that things got a pro charger on it! And he's running like 11 pounds of boost.
I was like yeah it sounded fast... and all my friends who already heard the story were laughing cause this kid LOVES mustangs and he kept saying that car will eat my truck a live...
Then i tell Ricky the story about Saturday night and how i pulled away from it, he was like well he must not of been trying cause that car runs 12's... It has a 4:10 gear he said so that explains why he shot outa the whole like a bat outa hell. He also had Nitto tires on so that answers my question why he could launch at like 4 grand and get tration....
It was just funny to 1 up this kid who always is saying how Mustangs are god and how every mustang is so fast... He has a 91 gt with a built trans and pretty much stock motor and et streets and he's running 13.50's... It was funny for him to shift 1 minute saying that Cobra was crazy fast and then in turn admiting for once my truck was "crazy fast" we cought him with his foot in his mouth, and for once he had to admit I gota quick truck. And there are cars out there that are faster than mustangs... But it was just even more of a compliment when i heard that car had a PRO Charger on it! I think i have a little more work i need to do to keep up with the 03 cobra but i am very happy with where i am now. Thanks, Shane

 

I would be verry surprised to see that the cobra had any type of supercharger. Add in the fact that you pulled on him in the upper rpm / speeds then I highly doubt that he had a S/C. A 96-98 cobra with 11lbs of boost should put around 380-420 rwhp. Add in the 4.10's then he should have taken you fairly easily. Did you hear any strange noises when you passed him? If he had a s/c then you would have been able to hear it. You can hear most centrifical s/c at idle, not to mention at WOT. Good kill anyway.

 

Did you race the cobra with or without your chip?

 

Yeah i could have sworn i heard his supercharger when he flew by me the first few times even b4 we raced... But i raced him with my chip out...

 

without your chip too!!! if he's got a blower on it, there's no way you would have beat that cobra then. unless that cobras really screwed up there's no way bro. sorrry.

 

dude it happened i didnt make up the story. all i don't know for sure is what set up he was running when we raced. Thats why i said i'd love to catch up to him and talk...

 

Yeah I beleive you, I just don't beleive 1 of two things here. and its either his car having a blower or him not knowing how to drive the car, HAHAHAHHA
