Tranny is whinning in D with od on and off?
It doesn't make the noise when I move into 1st and 2d gear.
Can anyone give me an Idea of what this could be?

 

About the only thing we can do as 'home mechanics' is to make sure the fluid level is correct. Drive it for about 20 minutes to get the fluid 'warm', not hot. Stop on a level pavement. With the parking brake on, move the shifter thru the gears, starting at and ending in Park. Pull the dipstick(with the eng. idling), clean it off and then check for the correct level--and coloration of the fluid. A 'too low' level can cause trans to have problems and so can a 'too high' level.

Maybe its the rear gears making noise and its not the tranny. You said before that you have a leak in the rear end. If the fluid level gets to low thay could howl. Just a thought.

I put the truck on jackstands and put it on D I know this isn't SAFE but I went under the truck and it's coming from the transmission. So its not the gears or driveshaft.

 

Four stands or just two under the rear axle??? If just two, your tranny's fluid was loaded up in the front???
