Thanks guys for all the replies!

According to ford with the 2800-stall I plan to use I should come up with some decent gains.

This truck is fixing to have a works blowing installed on it as soon as the Polishing is complete.

I hope that it will give me a better range from the Level 10 tranny that was residing in it.

My closest track is a 6-hour drive so I want some comfort in between unless I tow it.

And Yes.......I built and have the First DOHC Sean Hyland Motor SVT Lightning.

Its almost back together. Remember it was to be on display at SEMA and was to be run at the BLUE OVAL BASH in Vegas.

I destroyed my F550, 48-foot enclosed trailer and the SVT came loose inside because of the impact and went throught the side of the trailer....Can we say $150,000 in on shot. Thats like a big game of Black Jack.

I'll let you know what happens. It might not be what I'm looking for on the 5-speed.....Have to try it first.

We plan to flash to computer and go from there to compensate.

Hopefully it will all work out.

I'm not sure if you saw my reply, but gear wise all you are gaining with the 5 speed is an ultra low first gear. Second, third, fourth and fifth gears are the same as the 4R100's first, second, third and fourth. Your drivability and cruising will be the same as the 4R100.

I have one I'm playing with, but it's at least a year or two down the road. Right now there are no parts availible to upgrade. heck, you can't even buy the tools you need to assemble it yet, the ones I have I made myself (nice having a machine shop in the basement) Everything in the geartrain is similar to a 4R100, but enough different that they don't swap, some of the plates are more or less interchangeable, but not much else. It doesn't have any valve bodies, just a huge solenoid, but I'll prolly have a shift kit for it within a year.

sorry to bring up an old thread but our family just bought an 03 f-250 with the new 6.0 and the torqeshift(sp?) 5-speed so it made me think of this thread. How is the 5 speed coming along Mustangbadboy?

Swap was no biggie.......It was no better improvement over the 4r100 like sal or any of the other's had replied to. I thought it would be a nice swap since it was costing me nearly nothing.
It does have a bit more driveability on the highway.
The 4r100 is going back in the SVT.

I'm buying a New Excursion with the 6.0 and the torqueshift then plan on lifting it. I feel that tranny better suits the f250's and up platforms than our lightning trucks.

Better just let Ford spend the costs of R&D then myself of other tranny builders.

On a lighter note if ford would beef that tranny up I feel its a nicer upgrade to the DOHC Lightnings slated for production then going with a 6-speed manual!

Who wants a 6-speed manual in their trucks anyways!

It'll work great if you can strip off 1500 pounds of weight, but if you don't, then, no, it's just not enough beef.
