Pissed The ******* Off!!!!!!!
Pissed The ******* Off!!!!!!!
Well I installed a 5lb pulley and diablo chip and high flow cats the other day and went to replace the plugs today. My 99 has 30k miles on it. Original plugs in it. Come to find out the head on the rear passenger side plug was a little stripped and the socket wouldn't grab it. So I went and got a 15mm socket and the plug was stripped enough that it fit perfect. Well some moron from the factory tightened that plug to hell cause it snapped off inside the head. OOOOH I'm so pissed and had to vent!!!!!!!!!!! Any idea's!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

To do this right you will have to remove the head. I know you dident want to hear that. If you try to tap it or "easy out" it you will drop shavings or pieces of the plug down into the cylinder. Ive overtightened a plug and striped the head before (had to remove the head and install a sleeve), but never seen one break off. Sorry to hear about it.

I was going to say use a easy out but like Ops 10s said about the cuttings it may not work. Just wondering, when the plug busted, how was the launguage and how far did you pitch the socket wrench
?

Looks like its time for a 32v and a Works 140! JK
I broke a bolt on dirt bike like that. Just go a local auto parts store tell them what happend. You will have to drill a small hole in the plug and find a device ie. bit (they make one, sorry don't know they name, not a mechanical expert) that will drill counter clockwise and grab hold of the plug. Spray that SUCKA with WD40
before trying. Don't know of anything else beside removing the head $$$. Good Luck!

Bad AZZ,
THAT SUCKS
When you say "snapped off" in the Motor, does that mean
the entire head snaped off and nothing is sticking out any more ?
Sounds like thats what your saying ? Unfortunatly that would tell me it's fused together. The fact that the ORIGINAL PLUG HEAD was striped (and you never touched it before), tells me Ford probably mis threaded it in from the factory, knew it, and then tightened the ever living schitt out of it, even to the point where they rounded off the Plug Head. WHAT OTHER POSSIBLE REASON WOULD THE PLUG HEAD BE STRIPED ???
Why does that not surprise me
Unfortunatly it sounds like it's time to get a Lawyer.
I would let Ford Fix it so when it goes to court, they can not argue the amount of the repair. Of course you have to add an extra 100k so you have a starting point to negotiate from.

Thanx for your input guys. I had to go out last night to get my mind off of it ya know.
bluelightning: hmmm how far I pitched the socket wrench, well I think it hit a trailer in the trailer park across the creek from me (NC has trailer parks everywhere here
) and lucky for me I have a hanging punching bag in my garage and that got quite a bit of use.
Rob02Lightning: Ya I find it pretty weird myself that the factory plug had a stripped head on it. You think it's something I could sue them over? They could just say "oh you did it wrong and it snapped" but you can't remove the plugs in any 'wrong' way. I really do not look forward to fixing it myself tho, that's the reason I bought it was to do a little work and make it decently fast and not have to worry about fine tuning stuff or building new engines.
I'll take some pics later today and post them so you guys can see how the plugs looked, very c***py, half corroded and all.

There is a problem with the rear passenger side plug. There is a coolant line right over the top of it. It has been known to drip a little coolant right into the plug hole. That is how the plug becam rusty. From the factory the plugs are installed and torqued by a machine that does all four at once. The problem you have is you plug basically carroded through. When I took out my factory plugs that same plug was very rusty. I did that at 2500 miles. Had I gone 30k I probably would be in the same boat. Unfortunately the head will have to come off.
