Need some advice for my Father...

(I posted this on another site too)

Hello All. My father, gear head and Harley guy (not an Internet guy) was in a bad Motorcycle accident (old lady coming the opposite direction just turned right in front of him) and lost 1/2 a leg late last year. With his Insurance money from his Harley he purchased a 2000 White Lightning. Its a great vehicle and I'm very happy he got it, it was nice to see his spirits with the vehicle.

I wanted to ask you all if you could give me to lo down on the standard mod progression for these vehicles and when reliability becomes an issue. Also any typically known knowledge about these cars would be helpful. Unfortunately I do not have a lot of time to dig around the forums, so I hoped someone could take a few minutes to help us out (I plan to print and let him look it over).

I understand a new charger pulley and chip is a good start, how much power are we looking at there?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

With a 4# or 5# pulley and a good chip tune your looking at around 400HP and 500TQ at the wheels.

You're kidding right? No flame but a chip and 4 or 5 lb. pulley will not get you into the 400/500 club. Maybe the doormat but not past the doors.

I'd say with a simple chip, filter, and pulley combo you're looking at about 385ish rwhp and 490 rwtq. Of course I'm assuming this is more of a daily driver than a track car with a sane tune (no 14.7 AFs).

a chip, pulley, new plugs, 90mm MAF, and air filter will make all the difference. Do that first, you fathers truck will become a whole new beast. I would suggest between a 4 or 6 pound pulley.

I know the chip/pulley/filter combo has been the common answer, but I have yet to see any proven benefit of the air filter mod. I think I'd conisder a FT valve body before a cold air kit.

Nope, those were STD #'s, so subtract approx. 4.488% and you will have your SAE #'s.

Ill say with the Lightnings pullin as much air as they do esp. with a pulley, an aftermarket intake is a great upgrade, and i would definately expect an hp jump. Anyone have any numbers to support this directly?

Although i will say that its possible that most of the gains are gonna be at the very high end of the rpm band, no all across the band like a pulley itself or a chip would do.

I say chip, filter and pulley. Remember that smile on his face when he first drove it?? He will have that same smile all over again.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think a pulley, filter, & chip will do it for him.

if i had it to do all over again i would do some type of Traction device. No use for more power when you cant hook it up.
