How much will an oil breather cap lean out my AF?
How much will an oil breather cap lean out my AF?
My chip isn't burned for an oil breather cap but I have one laying around. With all this oil in intake talk going around, would it be worth it for me to slap it back on? I don't want to lean it out but if the difference is insignificant then I will do it. My chip is a pretty safe tune and it's been through some pretty low temps with no pinging/detonation. AFs at 5400 rpms were 11.5-11.7.
Also, what causes it to lean out?
Thanks

As usual, it seems each Lightning is differant.
I ran an open Breather for the first 6 months
with no chip reburn, no soft codes,
and no known problems,
yet some will get a soft code when they attempt it ??
As for leaness, one of our Brothers was kind enough to dyno the changes a while ago and post results, they were nothing to worry about FOR THE MOST OF US.
However I guess for someone who is right on the line of safety by having too lean a tune, the tiny winy bit of leaness it adds
could put you into the danger zone. I believe the differance was less than .2 of a change meaning if you had 10.5 the breather would allow it to go to 10.6 or 10.7
After I melted 3 plugs I added that check valve to mine
knowing I can only let out pressure, and not suck in (it works)
went from this

to this

As you can plainly see it works, the filter is now brown and oily
Right now I have it off and I'm testing that new PCV Fix
So far so good
