Trying to change valve springs w/o pulling heads

Has anyone been able to change the valve springs with the heads on the motor and the motor in the truck. I have done this on many vehicles, but can not seem to manage it on the L, too little room. I can compress the spring, but the tool leaves little room for getting valve stem keepers out and especially back in. Looks like i will have to do a lot more work if i must pull the heads. Am I missing something? Thanks for you help.

Sal - Did you use the Ford spring compressor? Are you using the 4v compressor, was thinking it might rotate around so access slot would face away from the motor and thus allow better access to keepers? I could not get the vsalve keepers back in on an "easy" to reach spring, did not even try the rear cylinders. Did you have the supercharger off? I have not pulled the SC or intake, or cams yet. Have you changed rods without re-balancing the motor? If so, how did thqat work out? Thanks for the info.
