Intake, heads, and cams?

1) When Ford replaced my blown '00 motor with an '01 they insisted that the '01 intake manifold be swapped for the one on my '00 motor. This royally ticked off the mechanic who did the swap, because he insisted that the intake on the '01 motor was a substantial improvement over the '00.
2) I am trying to obtain a set of '03 improved heads to reduce the chance of spitting plugs. In the process I am thinking of upgrading to the '01 manifold, if it really constitutes a substantial improvement. Information and/or opinions.
(Btw, I see that JLP is selling ported manifolds, but they must be mated to ported heads. I'd be inclined to go this route but for the fact that as far as I know all of the available ported heads are based on the old 4 thread design. Despite vendors' claims that these heads work fine under high boost I do not trust them, and am willing to sacrifice some power to keep the plugs in the heads.)
3) I am seriously considering putting some Crower Stage 2 cams in the new heads. Would this result in significant h.p. gains in the stock '03 heads over the stock cams? What about if I had them ported? Motor gurus?

JDM's ported heads have the improved threads. I counted 8 on mine. I also have crower cams.... runs great they are custom JDM grinds specifically designed for the flow of the porting in the JDM heads.

I would not change heads just because of the plug thread thing. If you were going to install cams and port the heads then it make since. I don't think the four threads is responsible for all the plug launches (maybe some but not all). As hard as the plugs are to change it could be that they are either not getting tightened enough or tightened to much and damaging the threads. In 66,000 miles I never had a single problem. Even though I made my living turning wrenches from 1976 - 1980 I paid a guy to change my plugs. I figured if I had a problem I could hook the installer. I have (after this scare started) done spot checks and never found a loose one. Maybe I've just been lucky. I do feel better now having an 03 now.
