How to tell if TPS is bad?
How to tell if TPS is bad?
I installed a new tb. I then drove the truck and noticed it was shifting high. In normal driving conditions, slow acceleration, it would not shift until 3000rpms, when it should have shifted at 1600rpms or so. So I went back and set the TPS to .99 volts from .78 volts (first time setting from new). I then drove the truck again and after about 100 miles it was shifting high again. I checked the TPS again to make sure it did not move and was still .99 volts. This problem was only happening about 3 out of 4 times. I have since put on the old TPS to see if it will stop this problem, I have only driven a few miles and it is acting fine.
So, is this a sign of a TPS going bad?
I have checked about everything else to see if it was a fluke that this started happening when I installed the tb. I have never had any problems with this truck, with my chip or tranny, it has 9700 miles and is 1.5 years old.

Any thoughts?
Well to be quite honest I am sitting here thinking of having several cold brews on the way home.
But as far as you question on the TPS, I have nothing that will help.
I installed mine (Accufab) last week and set mine at .985 and all seems well excpet the hisssssing I get under initial acceleration.
I suppose they can go bad. You didn't peel any insulation off the two wires to check the voltage, that could be touching did you?
Wish I could help. I am sure someone will soon.
Good luck
Marc

OK, I don't think it is TPS related. This shifting thing is only happening once the truck is at full operating temp. The shift from 1st -2nd has been feeling sluggish also when it hangs. I had no problems when the truck was put away last year. One of them winter gremlins I guess!
To check your TPS you hook a voltmeter up to it and sweep the throttle, your voltage should change progressively as you sweep the throttle. If the voltage jumps all over the place in spots then you have a bad spot in your TPS.
