I graduate college in 4 years. I have a choice of a few cars. I have decided that I want a truck, as I will probably be in a more practical frame of mind then. But I really will miss the power of my SS. So I think i'm gonna go with a Red Lightning, whatever the latest year of the current body style is that I can get. When do they cease production of the 2nd gen and start building the next body style??? Just need some advice. BTW what's the best thing I can do to reinforce the motor on one if I go w/ 6lb pulley, chip and filter??? My buddy who had a lightning w/the above mods, (4lb lower pulley) blew his engine and recommends me getting forged rods. i hate the idea of raising the block of a brand new car, but if its the best way to go, i'm up for it. This is long term speaking guys, I just want to know from the guys who know their stuff. Thanks.

 

Get a built block, and then let the mods begin. You can go from mild to wild and not worry about ventilating your oil pan. Besides, what can be more fun than a streetable 12 sec. truck.

if you get one , get an 03. heard those are the strongest motors out of all of them. if you just want to go cheap. just get the rods.

 

It's all in the tune....there are a lot of L's running with 6lb pulleys and have no problems. I am one of them. I have not detonated one time since I put the pulley on mine. Use one of the reputable tuners you find on this sight and you'll do good. Buy a used chip and start looking for Joe Cheapo tuner and you'll get what you pay for....vented block.


IT IS ALL IN THE TUNE!!!!!
