temp gauge reading cold, what is the problem?
not on the L, on the ranger, lol, but i can't get any info from any ranger boards, they are all clueless
put in an aftermarket autometer gauge because the stock gauge seemed to be registering low and wanted to know whats going on
first off, on the L, my water temp gauge would stay at 0 until the thermostat opened at 160, then it would jump all the way up
now, i don't know if the sensor is at a different place on the ranger, but the gauge starts reading immediately.
so, the truck runs around 125 or so when it's like 20 degrees, now that it's warmed up to say 40 or 50, it's running around 150, even at 70mph on the highway, still 150/149, never been above that,
last night, i make a stop for about 5 minutes, come out and start the truck, and the gauge is at 165?, start driving, after 3 or 4 minutes of driving, it creeps back down to 150,
my buddy came over, we went driving around for about 15 minutes, never went over 150 again,
anyone got an idea of whats going on?
the heat gets hot, so i am a bit confused, i guess at 150 it would be hot, maybe it's as simple as a new thermostat
i was thinking the thermostat was stuck open

My 92 Ranger 3.0L was like that. I could beat the tar out of it pulling a trailer full of sleds up-hill for hours and never see the stock gauge budge from where it would be under "normal" driving conditions. It might not have been the best vehicle out there, but it never let me down. I sort-of wish that I could have kept it, but I really like my fullsize better.
