PCV Mod
PCV Mod
I just ordered the PCV mod from Danny Swanson and was wondering if I need to have my chip reburned. I know if you plug the pvc or install a breather it needs to be reburned but I am not sure how this PCV kit works.
No reburn needed. I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and I had an oil breather on but it's off now with the DS kit. My a/f ratio may be a little 'fat' now but you should be fine.
Btw, watch your boost gauge carefully after the install is completed and you take it for a drive
In fact, take it for a drive just before the install so you can compare the gauge movement before-n-after.

Mine came in the mail today and it is very easy to install. It looks like this kits basicaly blocks the PCV line, Correct? Is there any proplems blocking this line like excess pressure in the pass valve cover?
By the way when I removed the upper PVC line it was full of oil. Is there any way to clean the upper/lower intake and intercooler without removing it?

Lightninrod- I just received my PCV kit as well and Danny told me that the boost would come on harder and that I should see and increase in boost as well. Did you see an increase in boost as well and if so how much? I wonder if there are any downsides to blocking off the line to the PCV valve?
Without this kit(or Sal's ball-bearing) our s/c'd engs. 'leak' boost thru the OEM PCV valve. If you take the OEM valve out. you can blow thru it in either direction. You can hold it up to the light and look thru it and see light when it's supposed to be 'closed'.
With the DS kit, the new PCV valve will close off any incoming boost pressure. You still have some PCV function back thru the tube that tees off of the main PCV tube(s) and attaches to the back of the lower intake manifold(below the blower). The boost 'leak' is also stopped(it closes off the port in the adaptor) by the small disc that is placed into the rubber boot that attaches the upper PCV tube to the intake adaptor(above the blower--next to the IAC).
With these two(new PCV valve and the dime-sized disc) pieces installed, the boost comes on slightly quicker than when stock. I have the OEM boost gauge so I can't tell how much the boost is increased(it's not really increasing the boost, just allowing all you already have to be used) but it should be increased a 'tad'?
I had no visible oil in my intake before installing this kit because I had the big, ugly(but effective) Condensator oil seperator installed along with an oil breather cap. This setup worked but I don't like the look of the Condensator or the oil breather cap filter in my eng. bay. I've tried everything(oil seperator[two different ones], oil breather, cam-cover breathers[on both cam-covers--which allowed oil to leak out onto the covers], and the ball-bearing fix. So far, I'm satisfied the DS kit is the 'fix' I want to use. Trevis was over last Sat. and I pulled the REM pipe off and there was no oil visible at the throttle plate
after the DS kit had been in for a week, plus the eng. bay is 'stock-looking' now.
I'm still not sure what affect the left cam-cover tube will have when it comes to allowing unwanted oil into the intake pipe lower end but I think it's OK and 'oilless'

I got my kit from Lightning Enterpirse, this is what my T/B looked like when I installed my kit. See the oil running down the right side? I assume this is the same kit you guy's are taking about.

that's weird. mine consumes some oil and i noticed this a lot after driving almost 700 miles this past weekend. well i checked the intake yesterday and saw only trace amounts. couldn't see it anywhere else either...(didnt take TB off..just disconnected the intake boot)
i'll be getting that pcv fix soon though..right after my next oil change (within this week) so i can see if it really works...
