I find it amazing how much gain I see on this site, what little bit I follow as far as perfomance upgrades. I have a bone stock 2002 except for the smaller Magnaflow. Question: what is the safest mods to start with, I don't want to trash this thing. Next dumb question.... I guess most of these void the warranty? Are there any "mild" mods? I just can't quit ignoring the HP #'s you guys are posting, they seem like big jumps.

Get a chip, 4lb pulley and drop in KN. About 700-800$ and you have 40 easy RWHP.

What sort of risks with those mods is there? Low? I always run premium which I assume is a must.

Broke trannys, rods, and plugs are exactly the things I don't see being worth the added power. Guess I'm gonna leave it alone.

I agree a chip, Filter, 4# pulley, and a set of NGK TR6 Spark plugs.

I feel that is a pritty safe set of mods, and you should have many happy miles. As long as you don't get on it to much when it is under 25 degrees you should be safe.

Ive kinda wondered about this too and ive never got a staight engineering answer but the reason is. Cold air is denser than hot air so if you run in colder air youll intake more air per fuel so youll run lean. Running lean is a bad condition for your engine. Now the reasons ive heard are it causes knock, because the fuel has a surplus of air to easily ingite and that running rich lets the excess fuel take heat away. I'm not really satisfied with either of these answers but thats what i hear. But lean is the danger and you should avoid it. Long as you do those mods should be well in the safe zone.

youve pretty much hit the nail on the head with that explanation, you forgot timing though, advance timing too far and you get detonation

And you also mentioned warranty concerns. These mods run the distinct risk of denial of warranty claims.
