Post Harley gained 80 hp with lightning upper

http://www.fordtruckworld.com/tenArt...?aid=166&sid=2

Thats the link to the article. If there was only 4lb boost difference between the harley and the lightning how in the world did these people gain 80HP!? Without a chip no less! I thought each pound of boost equated to about 10rwhp. Anyone else think this is odd?

well, HD has 6 lbs stock, L has 8 lbs.

The guy also had like 3 or 4 other mods installed at the same time also.

There was a post about this over at NHTOC a few weeks back. Ayrton did some research and found out it would be around 500 bucks for that mod

Don’t believe the hype, and I was game to try it until I found out what they want for the snout.

So I read the thread on ya'lls forum...you guys pretty much just decided it was a fluke then huh? I was actually suprised that more of you harley guys havent messed with the upper. I guess the lower is the easier way to go.

I can see it if it was an 4lb aftermarket L upper on the HD. That would be a 6lber on the HD whitch could possibley get that power. So it would be 12lbs of total boost on the stock HD.

12 psi would net you on your best day, 45 hp max and about 70 lbs or torque.. how about next time they dyno, they use the proper SAE correction factor. I raise the flag on this one....

Those HP increases are pure BS, and anytime I see anything assosiated with Magnuson it really raises the BS flag with me.

I have a few questions
were the numbers on both runs SAE or STD ?? it doesn't say

Also the first run was made 5.5 hours earlier, I bet the truck was nice and hot then. When they ran the 2nd run was the truck at the same operating temp?? I say not.

Also why do the bace line numbers all of a sudden just drop to zero, while the 2nd run they drop off normally.

Also reading the artical and I quote
"Magnuson also suggested that there’s more horsepower to be made by reprogramming the chip and adding some timing to the engine."

I think this answers all the question of why the big increase in HP and TQ numbers. The truck either had a chip in it on both runs or at least the 2nd run. So I would say if it had a chip the first run, it was tuned very very rich and when they added the pulley it brought the air fuel ratios where they should have been in the first place. If it didn't have a chip the first run, the chip had a lot to do with the numbers.

I would love to see the A/F ratios for both runs. To be a fair test the opperating temps and the A/F ratios should have been the same for both runs. With out those controls there is no way we can ever tell what the pulley alone would have done to the truck.
